Summary

A century before A GAME OF THRONES, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros。 。 。 A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R。 R。 Martin's ongoing masterwork, A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE。 Almost a century before A Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros。 。 。 In an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and recollections of the last dragon have not yet passed from living memory, a naive but courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, towers above his rivals - in stature if not experience。 Tagging along with him is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg, whose true identity must be kept hidden: for in reality he is Aegon Targaryen, and one day he will be king。 Improbable heroes though they be, great destinies lie ahead for Dunk and Egg; as do powerful foes, royal intrigue, and outrageous exploits。 Author BiographyGeorge R。 R。 Martin is the author of fourteen novels, including five volumes of A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, several collections of short stories and numerous screen plays for television dramas and feature films。 He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico。 - A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms By George R。r。 Martin (Paperback)

Very enjoyableI'm not one for prequels especially when I'm more invested in the stories that take place a hundred years down the line。 But this one is great because Martin is a great writer and I would love to read a sequel of this prequel。 Very enjoyableI'm not one for prequels especially when I'm more invested in the stories that take place a hundred years down the line。 But this one is great because Martin is a great writer and I would love to read a sequel of this prequel。 。。。more

Liked it more than I thought I would。 I was apprehensive about how dark the story would get but it was ok。

While the third one, I literally struggled through。 It is GRRM indulging into his favorite topics at best。 Houses, sigils, knights, their history, old wars, old tiffs - all in one novella。 A tough to trace account of all these。 But, all becomes bearable as you get a story revolving around a dragon egg !Indeed, you are never too old for fairy tales, dragons and knights。 And as once again GRRM makes you believe that with his own style。 Making Dunk and Egg, the characters you wish they had their own franchise。  。。。more

Found this from our recycle room so I gave it a read。 Words "blood" and those related to "death" on almost, almost every page, is my quick summary that gives the story somewhat negative vibe。 Other than that there's great scenes, though I'd do well with less so brutal violence。 Humans are capable of much more than just battling each other and arguing and warring, why not show it in the fantasy, too? It is of course very well written and you can recognise the style of Martin but the story is not as epic as the previous books。 Still nice to read but not as breathtaking as Song of Ice and Fire

Lately, I've been facing a reader's block like no other before。 I started reading A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms with the idea of finding a solution for it。 Sadly and even though the book is not bad by any means, it didn't really do much to help me go back into my usual reading mood, it took me months to finish these 3 tales。Anyway, regarding the story I can only say it is pretty unique。 A future king as the squire of a wandering knight certainly sounds attractive。 I consider one of the ideas th Lately, I've been facing a reader's block like no other before。 I started reading A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms with the idea of finding a solution for it。 Sadly and even though the book is not bad by any means, it didn't really do much to help me go back into my usual reading mood, it took me months to finish these 3 tales。Anyway, regarding the story I can only say it is pretty unique。 A future king as the squire of a wandering knight certainly sounds attractive。 I consider one of the ideas that made this story as interesting is how such a simple event like the death of Roger of Penytree years before, set in march the events we read about in this book。 Sometimes we expect an exceptional occurrence but life surprises us by just flipping a coin。 Now, in my opinion, the third and final tale is the best one, and because of it I'm left wondering how did the events have place for Egg to become King Aegon and Dunk his knight。 Nonetheless, I would be happy if we just get the final book of the main story someday。 。。。more

This was such a fun addition to the ASOIAF universe! The characters were awesome, the art was incredible, and it was just overall super fascinating。 My favourite short story was the Hedge Knight, followed by the Mystery Knight and ending with The Sworn Sword。 Keep it up GRRMs!

This book is overflowing with humor from our characters, gallantry, honor, beliefs, customs, loyalty and prejudice in this world of rulers and followers。 It is very much a page turner。 The illustrations help as well to visualize the story and understanding it better and faster。 One thing that I can definitely not miss out is this book is a roller coaster。 Twist and turns through out each part that can make you angry, happy, or sad。 The only thing that bothers me is the writing。 Its probably just This book is overflowing with humor from our characters, gallantry, honor, beliefs, customs, loyalty and prejudice in this world of rulers and followers。 It is very much a page turner。 The illustrations help as well to visualize the story and understanding it better and faster。 One thing that I can definitely not miss out is this book is a roller coaster。 Twist and turns through out each part that can make you angry, happy, or sad。 The only thing that bothers me is the writing。 Its probably just me and my lack of knowledge about words and understanding and because I am a newbie to the book world。 The writing makes me read it a couple of times and me pausing to think what it means, which if you think about it is not a bad thing。 Nonetheless the story itself is just worth reading and will not and probably never disappoint you or some of you。 And ohh by the way, in my opinion people in the age of adolescents is applicable for this book。 Have a great reading。 。。。more

Oproti sérii Píseň ledu a ohně teda celkem slabota。 A při překladu druhé povídky si měl překladatel rozmyslet, jestli bude přízvisko sera Lucase Lučiště nebo Inchfield - na začátku strany tak, na konci zas onak。

Re-Read of the first two novellas and first time reading the 3rd。 Probably my favorite stuff in ASoIaF, definitely benefits from being more concise and not shifting perspectives。 Hope to get more Dunk and Egg but not holding my breathe。

At the end of the book Mr。 Martin has the audacity to tell me to “keep reading”Sir, I need you to get your head out of your ass and start writing。Great book tho

Muy corto。 A veces se repite demasiado con las presentaciones de personajes que salieron anteriormente。

As novellas go this is about as good as it gets。 GRRM is an absolute master in getting you invested into the characters he creates and I honestly think Dunc and Egg are now two of my favorites alongside Tyrion, Tywin, Jon and Robert Baratheon 。

Vidhika Arya

Such a comforting book (despite the ever so present violence) with beautiful characters and nice twists in each of the three stories, answering the question of who a true knight is? The graphic illustrations are very beautiful too。

Stfu and let me live inside this book pls

Honestly more enjoyable than I thought it would be。 Easy to get into and nice to have different stories in the world。 Nice warm up for blood and fire

Excelentes e interesantes tres historias del caballero Dunk y su escudero Egg。 Muy divertido y super rápido de leer。 Agranda la historia del imperio Targaryen en especial en la Primera Rebelión de Fuegoscuro。

Liked it; think I would’ve enjoyed it more on paper instead of an audiobook - was hard to follow all of the different characters。 Some parts really dragged on, others were very exciting。 Glad I read but feel no need to read again。

This is the yin to Fire and Blood’s yang of the ASOIAF series。 If Fire and Blood is Westeros with the camera zoomed way out, a sort of summary of the backstory, then this is Game of Thrones but with the camera zoomed in on one character only, or a pair of characters I should say。I gave Fire and Blood 4 stars because, while I love the world and loved the book for that reason, the history book format as excuse to cover a lot of raw plot comes at the cost of what I feel is Martin’s greatest strengt This is the yin to Fire and Blood’s yang of the ASOIAF series。 If Fire and Blood is Westeros with the camera zoomed way out, a sort of summary of the backstory, then this is Game of Thrones but with the camera zoomed in on one character only, or a pair of characters I should say。I gave Fire and Blood 4 stars because, while I love the world and loved the book for that reason, the history book format as excuse to cover a lot of raw plot comes at the cost of what I feel is Martin’s greatest strength – the characters。 No one who isn’t a Thrones fan could read it, and even someone who is might not love it。 There are interesting characters that we are told about in Fire and Blood, but we never get to know them intimately like the GOT characters。 This book though, is the opposite。 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows Dunk, a hedge knight, and Egg, his squire on their adventures。 It is a compendium of three previously published novellas: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight。 It feels sort of like if you just excised one of the POVs from the main series。 You could probably read it, and maybe even enjoy it, without ever having read ASOIAF。 The downside is that you don’t get the same amount of lore, history, and worldbuilding that you get in the main series – but that’s the Fire and Blood side of the coin。 This story calls to mind the old-timey tales of the travelling knight errant, and while I haven’t read Don Quixote, from what I know it’s not hard to imagine there’s an influence here in a similar way the LOTR influenced A Game of Thrones。 Dunk is idealistic and tries very hard to live up to the code of chivalry, but in a complicated world and with Egg acting as his student and foil, these ideas get interrogated。 Dunk and Egg do get embroiled in the politicking of the higher lords, but more tangentially and the scale is much smaller。 At the end of the day, the pages flew by and I easily disappeared into the story。 That’s really all I want from any book。 。。。more

I liked it well enough, but there were a bunch of parts that were repetitive or slow。

Wow that was fun!My first experience reading from the world of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' outside of the history novellas in other works and it was a blast。There is such a wonderful dynamic between Dunc, a hedge knight and his child squire Egg in this series of three novellas set a hundred years before events in A Game Of Thrones。 For those familiar with the setting all the tropes are here, devious people doing devious things, bloodshed and cruelty and yet the tone is quite light throughout and on Wow that was fun!My first experience reading from the world of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' outside of the history novellas in other works and it was a blast。There is such a wonderful dynamic between Dunc, a hedge knight and his child squire Egg in this series of three novellas set a hundred years before events in A Game Of Thrones。 For those familiar with the setting all the tropes are here, devious people doing devious things, bloodshed and cruelty and yet the tone is quite light throughout and one roots for our heroes in each adventure。Easy to get into and great fun。 Recommended 。。。more

A wonderful tale of Duncan the Tall and Egg。 The narration of Harry Lloyd is simply masterful and really made the voices of Dunc and Egg come alive。

A knight of seven kingdoms is the Forrest Gump of all A Song of Ice and Fire novels, and is a compilation of three short stories。 In place of the usual scheming and conniving characters (a GoT trope of sorts) we have a dim-witted yet purehearted hedge knight named Dunk who seem to find himself in the middle of some of the most important events in the history of Valyria。。 With an unlikely companion in the form of his squire ‘Egg’, the duo’s journey across the seven kingdoms, a hundred years befor A knight of seven kingdoms is the Forrest Gump of all A Song of Ice and Fire novels, and is a compilation of three short stories。 In place of the usual scheming and conniving characters (a GoT trope of sorts) we have a dim-witted yet purehearted hedge knight named Dunk who seem to find himself in the middle of some of the most important events in the history of Valyria。。 With an unlikely companion in the form of his squire ‘Egg’, the duo’s journey across the seven kingdoms, a hundred years before the events of GoT is nothing short of a marvel。 Firstly, An ASOIAF character who isn't egoistic and scheming snowflake (and who isn’t Tyrion) was a breath of fresh air。 However, make no mistake, the level of intrigue brought by such characters, which made every ASOIAF entry a page turner is very much there。 Despite having a main character, and one that’s ‘good’ that too (both unusual of GRRM), the plot is anything but plain and predictable。 Filled with light-hearted moments and humour that may rival that of Tyrion’s wits, and some of the best plots in the entire series, this is the perfect example of a balanced story。 Set in three different parts of the seven kingdoms and rich in characters and lore, it is a must read for both GOT and ASOIAF geeks。 However, this may also be considered its shortcoming by some, since this means it cannot be read without a good background into the GoT universe (which is a shame, considering it’s considerably short and simple, and hence great for beginners)。 But again, without this level of detail the experience wouldn’t be the same, I guess。 It is no secret that the main ASOIAF books have become more focussed on plot than characters over the years (a decline, depending on who you ask), and after reading the plot heavy Dance with Dragons, the trilogy was a welcome change。 GRRM plans on writing more of these (though we all know how that went with the Winds of Winter)。 Keep ‘em coming :) 。。。more

Great entry to the world of ASoIaF with charming characters。

Three enjoyable stories, I'd probably have preferred one full length story, the trouble with reading the three back to back is the repetition but it's not too bad。 They're good fun, I did find myself getting lost in the third of the three as to who was whom and what each was doing, GRRM seems to like his cast of thousands。 I guess it's a race between whether The Winds of Winter or the follow up adventures of Dunk and Egg, promised at the end of this book, will come first。 Three enjoyable stories, I'd probably have preferred one full length story, the trouble with reading the three back to back is the repetition but it's not too bad。 They're good fun, I did find myself getting lost in the third of the three as to who was whom and what each was doing, GRRM seems to like his cast of thousands。 I guess it's a race between whether The Winds of Winter or the follow up adventures of Dunk and Egg, promised at the end of this book, will come first。 。。。more
